The Omni Hotel....morning
John Ross is getting dressed for one of the most important days of his life - the big meeting of the board and stockholders at Westar. The day he intends on taking over the company. After putting his tie on, then he vest, John Ross walks over to the table beside his bed. He looks down at a framed photo of J.R. sitting on the table. He takes a seat on the bed and picks up the photo. "Finally made it, Daddy," he says. "Today, I'm gonna achieve a dream you once achieved. "Today, I'm gonna |
Westar....later
"Excited, sweetheart?" Kimberly asks.
"Nervous is more like it," replies Jillian.
"No need to be nervous. Today, the board will vote to permanently install you as CEO. Something I've dreamed of since the day you were born. You running the company your grandfather started."
Jillian looks around the room. "I wonder where John Ross is. He said he was gonna be here."
The smile disappears from Kimberly's aging face. "I wish you'd stop worrying about John Ross Ewing. I wonder why......" Kimberly stops her sentence as she, too, looks around the crowded room.
"Wonder why....what, Mom?" Jillian asks.
"George Grimes isn't here. I don't see Dan Hargrove, Milt Summers, or Janet Phillips, either."
"So?"
"So?" Kimberly repeats. "Jillian, aside from myself, those are the four largest stockholders in Westar. Their votes will be crucial."
Tripp walks into the room. Spotting the Cryders, he walks over.
"HI, Tripp. What are you doing here?"
"My grandfather gave me his proxy."
"You must be Thomas McKay," says Kimberly.
"Yes ma'am, but, everyone calls me Tripp."
"I haven't seen you since you were a little boy, but I've often heard your grandfather speak of you. I was so sorry to hear about Hunter."
"Thank you," Tripp says, a sad look on his face.
"Everyone, may we have your attention, please," a man says, stepping to the head of the long board table. "Everyone find a seat. Thank you." The entire group begins to settle into their seats. Once everyone is seated, the man continues: "Let this meeting of the Westar Oil Company board of directors and stockholders come to order. Ladies and gentlemen this meeting has been called so we may officially elect a new Chief Executive Officer and Chairman Of The Board of Westar. As many of you know, I will be retiring and stepping down as Chairman, effective immediately after a new chairman is elected. We, the Westar Board Of Directors have been extremely grateful and pleased with Miss Jillian Cryder, daughter of Kimberly Stiles Cryder. Miss Cryder stepped in as CEO a few months ago after our previous CEO, Ed Lawson, retired due to health reasons. Miss Cryder, this board owes you a great debt of thanks. And may I add that, despite your youth and inexperience, you've done a remarkable job." Sitting in the front of a row of chairs with her mother, Jillian smiles, and Kimberly beams with pride as they listen. The Chairman again continues: "However, this board feels that someone more experienced should be at the helm of a large company such as Westar."
"Tom, I don't understand," Kimberly Cryder interrupts.
"I'm sorry, Kimberly. Jillian. The board met privately yesterday, and discussed the matter with some of the other large stockholders."
"I own a substantial amount of stock in this company," Kimberly says. "And with the other major share holders, I have enough votes for my daughter to be elected as permanent CEO."
"I'm sorry, Kimberly," one of the other male board members says. "But you don't. George Grimes, Dan Hargrove, Janet Phillips, and Milton Summers all have sold their shares. The person who now owns 55% of this company's shares will be the new Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board."
"And just who in the hell is that?" Kimberly demands to know. "Who did George and the others sell out to?"
At that moment, a door to the left of the room opens, and John Ross walks in. Jillian and Kimberly are both stunned.
"Ladies and gentlemen," the chairman continues. "I am pleased to introduce, the new CEO and Chairman of the Board of Westar, John Ross Ewing III. Our new majority stockholder."
Westar Oil....
"Thank you, Mr. Crosby, I sure do appreciate that vote of confidence," says a smiling John Ross.
Meanwhile, across the room, Jillian and her mother aren't sharing the feeling of most of the rest of the room. Neither is Tripp, who stands watching John Ross with disgust. After the last of the stockholders shakes John Ross's hand, Jillian walks over to him, followed by her mother.
"You son of a bitch!" She says angrily.
"Jillian, this isn't personal," John Ross says.
"Isn't personal, my ass. You used me. You tricked me into hiring you just so you could stage this takeover."
Kimberly steps up to him. "You know something, young man? You're even worse of a monster than your father ever was. I warned my daughter not to trust you, and I'll be damned if I'll let you get away with this."
"I already have gotten away with it, Ms. Cryder. I swooped in, bought those shares, makin' me the majority stockholder in this comp'ny. Nothin' you can do about it."
"Don't bet on that," says Kimberly. "I stopped your father once. I'll find a way to stop you, too."
"And if my mother doesn't, I sure as hell will," Jillian says.
"Look, Jillian...." John Ross's sentence is interrupted when Jillian gives him a very hard, and very loud slap across the face. She glares angrily at him for a moment, then Jillian and Kimberly leave the room.
Tripp walks up to John Ross, who rubs his stinging left cheek. "You're a piece of work, aren't you?" Tripp asks. "That girl trusted you. Brought you into her company, and you steal it away from her. You really are J.R. Ewing's spawn, up and down."
"You're just mad because you didn't think of this first," John Ross says.
"Tell me....where'd you get enough money to buy up 55% of the shares in Westar? That must've taken hundreds of millions of dollars and I know damned well you don't have that kind of money."
Tripp shakes his head in disgust as he looks at John Ross. "You're a real bastard."
"McKay," John Ross says to him as Tripp starts to walk away. Tripp stops and turns back to him. "I know you're sleepin' with my wife," John Ross continues. "Don't worry, I don't give a damn. You can have my hand me downs."
"Why, you....."
"Don't start anything here," John Ross says as Tripp looks as if he's about to punch him. "I can and WILL have you tossed outta here on your ass. That wouldn't look too good."
Tripp gets in John Ross's face and stares him down. "I'm gonna get you, John Ross. My granddaddy took on your daddy and won a couple times. I'll win once and for all." Tripp turns and walks away, leaving John Ross smiling and savoring his victory. Outside the boardroom, Tripp takes his cell phone out of his pocket and dials Pamela's number. She answers after the first ring. "Pamela," Tripp says. "You're not gonna believe what John Ross did."
Ewing Global....
Amanda walks in carrying some papers. "Here are those contracts you wanted, Mrs. Ewing."
"Thank You, Amanda," Sue Ellen says with a smile. "So, how have your first two days on the job been?"
"Absolutely wonderful," Amanda replies. "I love working here so far. Everyone is so nice. I have a question, if you don't mind?"
"Of course. Anything."
"What about him?" Sue Ellen asks.
"He's really cute, and I was just wondering....where exactly does he fit in around here? Is he Mr. Ewing's assistant?"
"Oh? But, I thought his last name is Krebbs," Amanda says.
"It's a long and complicated story. But, Lucas's mother married someone else, and Lucas was given his stepfather's name. He's been spending time here at the office working with Bobby, learning how the oil business works."
"Oh, I see. Well, thanks," Amanda says with a tone of disappointment. "I'd better get back to work." She smiles at Sue Ellen, then as she is leaving the office, Bobby walks in.
"Sue Ellen, I think you'd better turn on your TV," Bobby says.
"What is it?" She asks.
"You aren't gonna believe this."
Sue Ellen picks up her remote from her desk and switches on her television. The afternoon news is on, and her attention is immediately caught by a news story, which shows a picture of John Ross on the screen. She turns up the volume: "As we reported earlier, Westar Oil Company in Dallas underwent a major shakeup in a joint meeting of stockholders and the company's board of directors this morning. In an unexpected turn of events some are calling the business coup of the year, John Ross Ewing III, son of the late legendary Dallas oilman J.R. Ewing and his former wife Sue Ellen, was named CEO and Chairman Of The Board of Westar....." Sue Ellen gives Bobby a look of shock, then turns her attention back to the newscast: "Ewing managed to purchase 55% of the company's shares of stock, making him the majority stockholder in the company. With those shares, Ewing had enough votes to unseat Westar's CEO Jillian Cryder and to replace the company's outgoing Chairman Of The Board, Thomas Hartley, who is retiring after serving 15 years in that position. Jilian Cryder and her mother Kimberly, who is the daughter of Westar's founder, Dr. Herbert Stiles, and former wife of Westar frontman Wilson Cryder, refused comment..."
Sue Ellen switches off the TV. "I don't believe it. I just don't believe it."
"Where could John Ross have come up with the money to buy enough stock in Westar to become the majority shareholder?" Bobby asks.
"I have no idea," Sue Ellen replies. "But I'm sure gonna find out."
"I can't stop you," she says. "After all, you are the boss around here now."
"That's not it at all."
"I'm listening."
John Ross is silent for a moment. "Look, I can't.....I can't tell you everything right now. But I will in time. Just know, I have my reasons. And part of my plan involves you."
"Me? How so?" Jillian asks.
"I would tell you to just trust me, but I realize I blew that," John Ross says. "There's just things I can't tell you right now. But Jill, I am not kickin' you out of this company. I still want you to be a vital part of Westar."
"You've gotta be kidding. You want me to work for YOU?"
"Not for me. WITH me. As joint CEO. Together, we can do great things here at Westar. Take this company to new heights that former CEOs like your daddy, my daddy, Jeremy Wendell, and Carter McKay never dreamed of."
"John Ross, do you really take me for a fool?" Jillian asks. "I'd sooner sell my soul to the devil before I'd work with you. You're nothing but a lying, cheating backstabber."
"He comes by it honest," comes the voice of Kimberly Cryder, who's standing in the doorway. She walks into the office. "What can you expect but backstabbing and lying from the son of J.R. and Sue Ellen Ewing?"
"Mother, I thought you went home," says Jillian.
"Ms. Cryder, your daughter and I were havin' a private conversation," says John Ross.
"You have no business talking to my daughter at all. In fact, you have no business in this office or this company at all."
"I happen to be CEO of this company."
"Exactly how did you manage to pull that off?" Kimberly asks. "I've known George Grimes and Dan Hargrove for more than thirty-five years. I can't conceive of any amount of money that would make them sell their shares in this company. And now I can't even get in touch with them. So tell me, what did you do to them to make them sell?"
"Oh, I guess they just decided to get out of the oil business," John Ross says. "Tired of dealin' with the constant stress."
"I'll find out how you got them to sell out to you. And then, I'm gonna kick your ass right out of here."
"Mom, let's go. I can have the rest of my things sent to me," Jillian says. She and Kimberly start to leave, then Jillian turns back to John Ross. "I hope you're more miserable here than you've ever been in your life." Without another word, Jillian and Kimberly leave.
As Jillian and Kimberly leave John Ross's office, Sue Ellen walks into the receptionist area. She and Kimberly come face to face for the first time in many years. "Well, Sue Ellen," Kimberly says. "It's been a very long time."
"Kimberly," Sue Ellen says coldly.
"Here to congratulate your son on his victory? Funny, isn't it? How history has repeated itself. Tell John Ross not to get too comfortable in my daughter's office. He WON'T be occupying it for long." Kimberly and Jillian then leave and get on an elevator.
Sue Ellen walks over to Jillian's former office and sees John Ross standing by the window looking out. She enters the office. "John Ross?"
He turns around and smiles upon seeing his mother. "Mama. Well, come to share in my victory?"
"I came to ask you what the hell you're thinking," replies and angry Sue Ellen.
"I did somethin' in a matter of weeks that it took J.R. years to achieve. Takin' over Westar."
"John Ross, where on earth did you get the money to buy all those shares?"
"I got 'em at a rock bottom price," John Ross says. "The shareholders were real eager to get rid of 'em."
Sue Ellen crosses her arms and gives her son a very stern look. "You blackmailed those shares away from their owners, didn't you?"
"Now, Mama. What makes you think a thing like that?"
"Because I know you. And I know that's exactly what your father would've done."
John Ross smiles. "Duttin' matter how I got the shares. Fact is, they're mine. I am now majority stockholder in this comp'ny, and CEO. You and Uncle Bobby stole Ewing Global right out from under me. What'd you expect me to do? Just sit idle and not try to get back in the game? Well I AM back in the game, Mama. I'm gonna take this comp'ny to the top. Make it bigger than it ever was."
"I'm sorry it's come to this," says Sue Ellen. "Just know one thing. If Westar comes up against Ewing, you'd better be prepared to fight, and hard." Sue Ellen turns and storms out of the office. After his mother is gone, John Ross returns his gaze out the window and to the impressive Dallas skyline.
That night....
"In other news today," the newscaster begins, "Westar Oil Company in Dallas received a major shakeup at the top when John Ross Ewing III staged a remarkable coup by purchasing enough shares of stock to make him the majority shareholder in the 70-year-old company. Ewing was then able to unseat the company's young Chief executive officer, Jillian Cryder, and step in as CEO in her place."
"Hey. Hungry?" George asks.
"A little," replies Christopher.
"Good. Got us some chicken for dinner."
"George, I'm reminding you that you're time is running out."
George looks at him. "Christopher...."
"I gave you two weeks. That two weeks is up in a couple of days."
"Unfortunately we haven't made the kind of progress in this case that we'd like to."
"So? What the hell does that mean?" Christopher asks.
"It means.....there's no way I can let you leave here with the danger you're still in. Now, we do have a plan to lure Trevino out into the open. But we have to make sure that everything is set up just right in order for it to work."
"What's the plan?"
"Can't tell you that," George replies.
"Come on, man. This is MY life we're talkin' about here. I have a right to know."
"We're gonna use a decoy. We know where one of Trevino's henchmen is. We're gonna get word to him that you're still alive, and he'll relay the message to Nicolas."
"And you think Nicolas is gonna come back to try to finish the job himself?" Christopher asks. "What makes you think this guy is that stupid? More likely he'll get one of his guys to try to kill me again rather than risk coming back himself."
"He probably wouldn't," says George. "But if we can nab one of his men, perhaps we can convince him to lead us to Nicolas himself."
Christopher walks to the window and looks out. Then he turns back to George. "This had better work. And soon. I'm giving you just one chance to get this right."
Dallas....the next morning...
"I'm sorry, honey. I didn't mean to keep you awake."
"It's alright," Ann says, taking a seat at the table. "Wanna tell me what had you so restless all night?"
"Just thinkin' about John Ross. I'd honestly hoped that all this fightin' within the family would come to an end. Especially after the tragedies we've faced recently. But I guess I was just bein' too optimistic."
"You think with John Ross at the helm at Westar, it's gonna cause a big war between Westar and Ewing Global?"
Bobby smiles slightly. "I know it will. John Ross went to work at Westar just to spite me and Sue Ellen. The main thing I'm concerned about right now is how he came up with the money to buy all those shares. I just know however he got the money, it wasn't honest."
"What makes you think that?" Ann asks, smiling, as if joking.
"You know John Ross almost as well as I do. He's certainly J.R.'s son. And, I've also been thinkin' about Southfork. It's been hard splittin' my time between the office and the ranch, tryin' to oversee the renovations."
"Bobby, why don't I take over the ranch?"
"Honey, that's....."
"I know what you're gonna say," Ann interrupts. "That's MAN'S work."
Bobby smiles at her.
"Bobby, I have an idea," Ann continues.
"Well, let's hear it."
"What about Lucas?"
"What about him?" Bobby asks.
"Well, he's been workin' with you at the office every day for the past few days. He went to business college, and you yourself said you were impressed by how much he's learned at the office."
"Honey, what exactly are you gettin' at?"
"Why don't you let Lucas fill in for you at the office while you concentrate on Southfork? I'm sure if there was anything he didn't know, he could ask Sue Ellen."
"Ya know, that's not a bad idea," Bobby says. "I don't know why I didn't think of that. I'll ask him this mornin'. I'm really proud of that boy. It's been nice havin' him around. Especially since...." Bobby stops his sentence short.
"Since Christopher's death," Ann says, finishing the sentence for her husband. She reaches out and touches his hand. "Bobby, it's okay to talk about it. I know how much you're still hurtin'. We all are."
Ann stands and walks over to him. "I do understand. "
"When Lucas first came here, you said to me that I couldn't replace Christopher with him. That's not what I'm tryin' to do."
"I know that," says Ann.
"But havin' my other son around, Annie, it's been like a Godsend. Kinda lessens the emptiness somehow."
"I'm real glad Lucas decided to stay in Dallas after Ray and Jenna left. He's been good for Emma, too."
Bobby looks at his watch. "He should be here any minute. Guess I'd better get my jacket." Bobby kisses Ann, then turns and walks into the bedroom.
The Ryland Mansion...
Emma stops and turns to him. "Daddy, I didn't know you were back in town."
"I finished my business up yesterday and got home late last night. How ya doin', sweetheart?"
"I'm fine. I just came to pack some of my things."
"You know, Emma, you don't have to go back to the hotel and stay with your mother and Bobby. This is your home. You're welcome to stay here."
Emma lowers her head for a moment, then looks at her father. "Thank you. But after everything, I just need time away from here for a while."
Emma looks at him and hesitates a moment. "Yes. You and grandmother. I can't close my eyes without reliving what I went through in Mexico."
"Look, sweetness, I know that I played a big part in the mess you got in with the cartel. There's nothin' I can ever do to make that up to you. But I'd like to try, if you'd let me."
"Daddy, it's gonna take time," Emma says. "Time for me to deal with everything."
"You happy stayin' at that hotel with Bobby and Ann?"
"Yes, I am. I....I'd better get my things packed. I took a taxi since I'm not supposed to drive yet."
"If you'd like I could send the taxi on, and drive you back myself. Emma, I miss you, sweetheart. I'd like to spend some time with you. Even if it's just an hour or so."
Emma contemplates. "Alright, fine. Pay the driver for me, and tell him he can go."
"Will, do, sweetheart," Harris says with a smile. Emma watches him as he exits through the front door, then she proceeds up the stairs to pack her things.
Ewing Global....later...
"Hi, Amanda," Lucas greets. "So how do you like working here so far?"
Amanda smiles. "It's great. Mrs. Ewing has been wonderful so far."
"Yeah, she's pretty awesome."
"I hope you don't mind, but I asked her about you."
"Yeah. I had no idea Mr. Ewing is your father, since your last name is different."
"I was raised by my mom and stepfather. Long story."
"I understand," Amanda says.
"I'm curious," says Lucas. "Why'd you ask my aunt about me?"
"No reason. Other than.....I think you're cute."
Lucas laughs. "Well, thank you, Amanda. I appreciate that."
"Would you maybe like to grab some lunch one day? Maybe next week?" Amanda asks.
Before Lucas is able to answer the question, Bobby appears in the doorway. "Lucas, could I see you?"
"Sure," he replies, putting his coffee cup down. "Talk to you later," he says to Amanda.
"Yeah," Amanda says with a smile. She watches Lucas as he walks out of the break room and follows Bobby into his office.
Bobby and Lucas walk into Bobby's office, and Lucas closes the door behind him. "What's up?" He asks.
"I have an offer to make you," Bobby says. "And I'll understand if you turn it down."
"What kind of an offer?"
"As you know, Southfork is undergoing major renovations right now, and I've been trying to split my time between the office and the ranch, overseeing the construction, and it's kinda hard. So, I need your help."
Lucas smiles. "Oh, you want me to take over for you at Southfork until the renovations are done?"
"No," replies Bobby. "I had more in mind you takin' over for me here at the office for a while."
"You....you want ME to fill in for you here at Ewing Global?"
"That's right. You're a business major, and the last few days you been workin' here, you've learned a lot."
"Maybe so, but not enough to handle or negotiate big oil deals," Lucas says.
"Don't worry about that. Anything major that needs takin' care of, I'll handle it. And your Aunt Sue Ellen is here, too. Any questions or problems you have, you can go to her. It'll only be temporary, until things are finished up at Southfork. Couple weeks at the most."
"I don't know what to say. I appreciate your confidence in me, but....."
"But......I think you'll do a fine job. I already spoke to Sue Ellen and she agrees. Now, I am expecting a meeting to be set up with Senator Matthew Culver sometime next week, and I'll handle that. Other than that, you shouldn't have to deal with anything other than routine stuff."
"Matt Culver?" Lucas asks. "Wow, I haven't seen him i a while."
"Well, I'd love to have ya sit in with me on the meeting. So, what do you say, Lucas?"
Lucas looks at Bobby and smiles. "Okay. I'll do it."
Bobby returns his son's smile.
"Well, Emma," John Ross says. "Cousin Lucas."
"Hi, John Ross," says Emma.
"How ya doin', Emma?"
"Fine, thank you. Still not a hundred percent, but, I"m getting there."
"That's good. I'm really glad to see you outta that hospital and back on your feet."
"Thank you for the flowers you sent," Emma says. "And for the visit."
"You remember me comin' to see you?" John Ross asks.
"Yeah, I was pretty out of it, but I remember. Oh, by the way, I heard about your.....what should I call it.....your big win over at Westar. Congratulations."
"I'm just taking Emma out to dinner," says Lucas.
"Oh, well, then, I won't keep you. You two have a nice night."
"Thanks, we will," Lucas says.
"Night, John Ross," Emma says.
John Ross smiles, then walks away. Lucas turns around and watches his cousin as John Ross walks across the lobby and gets onto the elevator.
"You don't like your cousin very much, do you?" Emma asks.
Lucas lets out a slight laugh. "That's putting it mildly. I can't stand him. I think he's an arrogant, pompous ass who needs to be taken down a few notches. Anyway, enough about John Ross. Let's get going. I'm starving,"
A park in Dallas....the next morning....
"Hey," Tripp says, slightly out of breath from jogging.
"Morning," says Pamela.
"How'd you know I was here?"
"You come here to jog every morning, Tripp. It wasn't hard to figure out."
Tripp laughs. "So what'd you wanna see me about?"
"I'm listening," says Pamela.
"John Ross said somethin' to me after the meeting Thursday. I asked him point blank how he got that kind of money. He said he has his ways, and he always gets what he wants. Just like his daddy. I talked to my grandfather late last night. He's pretty pissed at what John Ross did. He seems to think that those shareholders, especially George Grimes and Dan Hargrove never would've sold their stock to John Ross unless they were forced to."
"Forced to? As in.....blackmailed?"
"Yep. My grandfather says that's exactly the kinda thing J.R. would've done."
Pamela sighs. "Oh my God. What on earth could John Ross have had on those people to blackmail them all into selling."
"Good question," Tripp says.
"So, somehow we've gotta find out."
"But how?"
"Your grandfather could probably help us," says Pamela. "Given his very long association with Westar, I'm sure he probably knows those men pretty well."
"Yeah, probably. So, I"ll give him a call as soon as I get back to the hotel. Ask him what he knows about George Grimes, Dan Hargrove, and the others."
An hour later....
That night....
"That was your contact guy in Mexico, wasn't it?" Christopher asks.
"Yes, it was."
Christopher stands. "Any news on Elena?"
"I told you the other day, Elena's find," replies George.
"Don't think it's personal when I don't take your word on that."
"Why don't I send down for some dinner?"
"Why are you changing the subject?" Christopher asks. "I get the feeling there's something you're not telling me."
George looks at Christopher and sighs. "Christopher...."
"Tell me, George! What the hell is it you're keeping from me?"
George hesitates a moment before answering. "Alright, if I tell you, will you promise to stop bugging me about her?"
"I can't make that promise until I know what it is," Christopher says.
"Ah, hell, I guess you'll find out sooner or later anyway. Elena's pregnant."
"Yeah. But she's fine. She's under the care of a very good doctor in Mexico City."
Christopher walks to the window, then turns and starts pacing. "I have to get to her."
"You can't."
"I have to. Don't you understand? If Nicolas finds out she's pregnant, he's gonna come after her."
"We have men watching her around the clock. Trevino isn't gonna get anywhere near Elena. Neither are any of his men."
"How long have you known about this?" Christopher asks.
"A few weeks now," George replies.
"A....a few weeks? And you didn't tell me?"
"What good would it have done, Christopher? You're stuck here for the time being, until Trevino is caught and behind bars."
Christopher looks angrily at George, barely able to contain his anger.
Dallas....
"Can we talk?" He asks.
"I have NOTHING to say to you." Jillian starts to slam the door in his face, but John Ross puts his hand out and holds the door open.
"Just give me a minute. That's all I ask."
Jillian sighs, then steps back, allowing John Ross into the apartment. He closes the door behind him. "Make it fast," she says angrily. "You have ONE minute."
"Understand? I'm supposed to understand how someone I trusted, someone I cared for, just stabs me in the back without a second thought? God, what a fool I was to trust you and bring you into my company."
"I didn't do this to hurt you."
"What did you think would happen?" Jillian asks.
"Did you think I was just gonna jump for joy that you stole my job and my company right out from under me? Well I hope you're gonna be miserable at Westar." Jillian wipes a tear from her face. "Just get out."
"Jillian...."
"Get out!" She yells. "Go away, John Ross. I never wanna see you again. And if there's any justice, you'll get what's coming to you. I just hope I'm around to see it. Now get out of here!"
John Ross looks at her for a moment. He starts to leave, but stops at the door. Then he reaches into his pocket and pulls out an envelope. "I want you to have this," he says, turning back to her. "It's time you knew the truth. When you read what's in this envelope, maybe you'll understand." John Ross lays the envelope on the table near the door, then leaves the apartment.
After he's gone, Jillian walks over and locks the door. She picks up the envelope and looks at it for a moment. In her anger, she starts to rip the envelope and its contents in half, but stops herself. She tosses it back onto the table and leaves it there.
Later that night....
Dallas....early morning
Elsewhere....
"Boss, what's up?" The man asks.
"Have you seen Ewing?" George asks.
"No, I thought he was with you."
"Damn. Did you hear anything last night? You were supposed to have one man awake on watch."
"I'm sorry, boss," the man says.
George frantically runs down the hall and looks around. No sign of Christopher. He runs back up the hall toward his room, and the other two agents are now standing outside their room. "I want this entire building combed," George orders. "I want Ewing found, ASAP. And I pray to God we find him before Trevino's men spot him and find out he's alive! Alert our guys in Mexico City. I have a hunch that's where he's headed." George goes back into his room and slams the door angrily. He takes a seat on the bed. "Damn it, Christopher," he says. "What the hell were you thinking. If Any of the cartel spots you.....you're gonna be dead for real."
Meanwhile....
"Excuse me, Miss," he says. "What time do you think we'll be landing in Mexico City?"
"Our estimated time of arrival is 10 a.m.," the stewardess replies. "Is there anything I can get for you?"
"No. I just need to get to the woman I love."
